Lyrics

A thousand years ago or more,
I stood upon a distant shore
and watched a seagull rise and fall,
On a wind I couldn’t see at all.

So I wished that I could fly
and understand the reasons why
a soul could rise above all things
without the flapping of its wings

I listened hard to those that knew.
At least they all had claimed to know.
And bit by bit my spirit grew
as each new life would come and go.

Five hundred years or more have passed
Now I wore a different mask
Upon a strange and foreign sea
Those unseen winds now carried me.

I walked on many foreign soils
And struggled with my human toils
I longed for things I couldn’t see
In my search for spirituality

I listened hard to those that knew.
At least they all had claimed to know.
And bit by bit my spirit grew
as each new life would come and go.

Now I stand upon this shore
And watch the lissome seagull soar
I feel my soul begin to fly
Into that Mystic ocean sky

And down upon the shore I see
A newborn soul, so much like me
A thousand years ago or more
Who wondered how the seagull soars.
